We asked our General Surgery Specialist, Dr. Ali AYDIN, who was curious about the tube stomach surgery, which we started to apply on 01/03/2019 in the General Surgery Department of our hospital.Before starting our interview, let's get to know our Expert;

Our doctor who was born in 15/05/1965 Berlin is originally from Trabzon.He graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 1993.Specialized in General Surgery BakırköySadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital. In 2006, he worked as Chief Physician at Gebze State Hospital.
Respectively;Kartal Yavuz Selim State Hospital, Sakarya University and Turkish Red Crescent Diagnosis and Treatment Coordinator in our hospital just before starting to work in Bariatric Surgery, completed the necessary training in this field and began to work in our hospital.




TDH: WHAT IS OBESITY?
AA: It is a multifactorial disease that may cause many diseases by itself due to excessive increase in body fat mass and may adversely affect the course of many diseases other than obesity. Many psychological, metabolic, biochemical, genetic, environmental and physiological causes can lead to obesity.
Although Body Mass Index (BMI), which is used as a common language all over the world by WHO, is used for the definition of obesity, although many authorities nowadays believe that this is a very inadequate criterion. Daily activities, the back arm muscle (triceps) skin thickness and waist circumference hip circumference rate is more important. It is argued that obese people with more pronounced abdominal fat and subcutaneous fat should be evaluated differently than those with obesity.
In particular, increased abdominal fat (visceral fattening) in hypertension, fatty liver disease, high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, diabetes (type 2 diabetes mellitus) together with the so-called metabolic syndrome is more common and is seen to be more important. Therefore, surgical interventions performed in patients with metabolic syndrome are called metabolic surgery.

TDH: WHAT IS TUBE STOMACH SURGERY?

AA: Basically, approximately 3/2 of the stomach is removed from eating, drinking and digestive part of the physiological continuation, weight gain (fat storage) is a surgery that removes hormones.In other words, the purpose of the technique is to help them achieve the ideal weight if surgery is applied to overweight and to try to gain eating habits.


TDH: HOW DOES TUBE STOMACH EFFECT?

AA: The amount of food that patients can eat at the total meal decreases.Fasting and fat storage is removed from the stomach.The total amount of calories decreases and reduces fat storage.

TDH: WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES?

AA: Operations performed with other methods require lifelong mineral and vitamin supplementation.In tube gastric surgery, this period is limited to one year.
At the end of one year, no additional supplements are needed, and the physiology of digestion does not deteriorate while losing weight.

TDH: WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES?

AA: Exaggerated portion of food can not be consumed after surgery, as the addiction of eating will disappear, the inability of the dependent patients to eat more can cause depression.In this case, patients are evaluated psychologically and are not eligible for surgery.Preoperatively, it is prepared psychologically and psychologically.

TDH: WHAT ARE OBSERVED AFTER TUBE STOMACH SURGERY?

AA: On the first day, the juicy food diet starts
On the second day, the diet is increased, general table is monitored
  Patients are discharged on the third day
Called for control on the seventh day
Then it is checked at 1,3 and 6 months

TDH: WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF TUBE STOMACH SURGERY?

AA: The most important risk is thromboembolism. This risk is minimized by using blood thinners for one month.

TDH: HOW MUCH IS WE POSSIBLE TO LOSE AFTER THE OPERATION?

AA: Approximately 35% to 45% of a patient who weighs around 100 pounds, up to 60 pounds.This is the standard that can be reached within a year.


TDH: WHO IS SUITABLE FOR SURGERY?

AA: BMI (Body Mass Index) is more than 35% and is suitable for people with additional diseases that require surgery.
